PG&E supports Chambers “Fun Things to Do in Eastern Madera” Film Project with a $5,000.00 grant!
PG&E supports Chambers “Fun Things to Do in Eastern Madera” Film Project with a $5,000.00 grant!

Al Galvez, Manager of Public Affairs – Area 8 and Mary Diebert, Business Customer Field Rep presented the Eastern Madera County Foundation, the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Chamber staff a $5,000.00 check for Phase II of the hotel DVD the Chamber made last year to promote tourism in our region. Kathy McCorry applied for a grant through PG&E last year when our regional representative Mary Diebert heard about the film project and encouraged Kathy to apply. Kathy also sits on the Board of Directors for the Foundation which is a full 501 C3 the Chamber established over 10 years ago. The foundation is an important asset to our community in that the purpose of the Foundation is to help find, write, and oversee grant projects that will lead to the “advancement of the educational, sociological, and cultural interests of Eastern Madera County and its surrounding area”. The film project directly addresses several of these issues. Phase II of the Film Project calls for major distribution efforts outside of our immediate area. The film is designed to educate visitors about our heritage, our culture, the sights, sounds, attractions, and the central California location that make Eastern Madera a wonderful vacation choice. Al Galvez offered up a challenge to other businesses in our area when he said that businesses that have the opportunity to help with the production and distribution costs of this project would be wise to do so. He is hoping that the PG&E funds are matched by other businesses. This project is the kind of tool that will promote strong economic development in the region. The Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to provide the vehicle that will be the driving force behind promoting our community, and increasing our number one economic resource – tourism. The DVD will be re-edited from its current version that is running in most of the local hotels now to include recent changes in our travel and tourism related businesses. It will also include an extra section on lodging, since it will now be seen before lodging choices are made. The 16 minute DVD will then be distributed to the California Visitors Centers to be given away as FREE promotional tool for the area. Kathy McCorry estimates that the Chamber should be able to distribute 2000 plus DVD’s with the money from PG&E. She also points out; “We are not stopping here. We will continue to look for local advertising dollars, sponsorships, and outside grants to fund this program and others like it. I would love to see us be able to insert the DVD into a publication like Sunset Magazine or the Annual California Tourism Magazine. When it comes to promoting the Oakhurst Area and all of our Chamber members,” Kathy says, “the sky’s the limit!” Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce 49074 Civic Circle Oakhurst, CA 93644 559-683-7766 Fax: 559-658-2942 chamber@oakhurstchamber.com www.OakhurstChamber.com

Signing off... I wanted to take a moment of your time and thank everyone who has become a reader, continued as a reader and even some of those who left because you have all helped to improve your chamber newsletter. I actually resigned from my position as Chamber Web Administrator back in March but kept doing the newsletter wearing my other hat “Digital Mirrors” which I have operated with my wife Lisa in the Mountain Area since 2002. Thank you, Chris Baker
