Victims of identity theft sought by BBB Identity theft is not a laughing matter. And your BBB recognizes that, even though it isn’t your fault, being the victim of identity theft can be embarrassing. However, to help prevent this from happening to someone else, we are seeking the assistance of people who have been victimized by identity theft to help us work with the media. We are looking for people who have had to go through the trauma of notifying authorities and repairing their credit and financial history because someone else used their credit history. Identities will be kept confidential and participants in media interviews do not have to have their faces shown. If you would be willing to share your experiences, please contact Vickie Sanders at 559-256-6331 or 661-322-2077, ext. 331. You will be calling a private line and any messages left will be handled with discretion.
A recent Today Show segment cited statistics showing that that houses that are “staged” sell on average at 7% higher than houses that are not staged.
- Staging is a great first step to giving the prospective buyer the right “feel” when viewing a house.
- Buyers also want a feeling of roominess, and too much of your stuff will make rooms appear smaller than they really are. Rent a storage facility and get half or more of your stuff out of the house and ought of sight..
- Buyer’s want a feeling of cleanliness, so make sure everything is clean, that lawns are groomed and shrubs are neatly trimmed.
- They want a feeling that things have been maintained, so replace, repair, or refinish everything the buyer is likely to see up close – like doors, door frames, door knobs, faucets, cabinets, counter tops, etc.
- The buyer’s first impression will be the outside appearance. Painting just the trim will sometimes give a fresh look to the whole house.
- When house is being shown be sure it is well lighted, and doors to halls and all rooms (except closets) are open and inviting. Hiring a professional staging consultant may give you the best return on investment you can get. Ask your Real Estate Agent to suggest someone.
And one more thing - Trying to sell your house without an agent is inviting a selling price that is lower by about twice what that agent would have cost you - as Yogi Berra would say, “and you can look it up.”
Quick Tip of the Day: On-line purchasing may save time, But check before you click
How can you tell if an online company is legitimate when you're thinking of buying something? Here are some key things to look out for: · Check out the company’s website and check with the BBB · Make sure there is a physical address and customer service phone number for the company · Check the return policy carefully; watch for restocking fees · Keep a record of your online purchase. Print out the page with the seller's name, address, and phone number. Print out the page about the item you ordered. Print any email confirmation messages you get and any follow-up messages about problems in shipping. Remember: if you have a problem with a company, call the BBB at 800.675.8118 or go online at www.bbb.org. For more consumer tips, check outwww.bbb.org.

Signing off... I wanted to take a moment of your time and thank everyone who has become a reader, continued as a reader and even some of those who left because you have all helped to improve your chamber newsletter. I actually resigned from my position as Chamber Web Administrator back in March but kept doing the newsletter wearing my other hat “Digital Mirrors” which I have operated with my wife Lisa in the Mountain Area since 2002. Thank you, Chris Baker
