Leadership Opportunities Abound

Despite recent news accounts about a dearth in leadership in Central Florida, the myregion.org project has attracted a new generation of concerned citizens, some of whom have never before been involved in a major community project. Leadership development is one of the key objectives of the myregion.org initiative, but it’s also an opportunity for those who participate in the two-year project.

Recently, Belton E. Jennings III, CEO of the Orlando Regional REALTOR Association, authored a column in the June 2002 issue of the Orlando REALTOR. This monthly magazine is distributed to 5,500 association members and Jennings’column clearly supports the significance of myregion.org’s leadership development component. Jennings writes that leadership sometimes means, “taking a measured, thoughtful approach” as well as “working steadily and surely toward a goal that isn’t quite clear.” Jennings adds that leadership also “…sometimes means having the consummate patience and wisdom to let ideas gestate, relationships develop and consensus grow.”

Next month, myregion.org will host its final series of Essential Activity Workshops, offering a public and informative discussion about the data that has been gathered over the past few months. The workshops offer an opportunity for participation in an important community project that could lead to significant change in the future.

The workshops are an opportunity for interested citizens to listen, speak, learn and get involved on issues of importance to Central Florida. “Certainly many of the individuals in high-profile roles in the community are involved, but myregion.org offers decision-making and leadership opportunities for many who never before have had that chance,” said Chairman Joel Hass. “Inclusion –at every level- is one of the five Core Values identified when the project was born. We believe it’s critical for the future of Central Florida.”
