Leadership Council To Review Issues Statements Next Week
Leadership Council members Dean O'Brien and Ellen Titen

The Leadership Council will meet next week in Volusia County to conduct its second review of the Issues Statements to ensure that they are complete and accurately reflect the views and comments that were provided during the Essential Activities workshops held in late January, 2002.

The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m., Monday, April 22 at the Volusia County Administration Building in Deland and it is expected to last three hours. Of the 13 topics or “templates” to be examined, the council will review Transportation, Culture, Environment, Healthcare, Infrastructure, History, Demographics/Diversity, Public Safety, Tourism, Development and Economy/Workforce. The topics of Government and Education were discussed at a meeting last month at the Orlando-Sanford International Airport.

The Leadership Council's review is part of the current data-gathering phase of myregion.org. The council’s objective is to ensure that no issues have been overlooked, that they are clearly stated, and to identify each template’s key issues. The information will be analyzed by Consultant Michael Gallis, who will use the data in his research designed to understand the region. Gallis’ work could lead to new discoveries about the region.

The Leadership Council's work ensures that Gallis and his team get the most accurate information possible about the community’s pulse on the region’s significant issues, trends and concerns.

In addition, the council will review the Bibliography, which lists the multitude of resources that have been provided to the Gallis team for its examination of the region. The Bibliography is composed of a “Resource Worksheet” that includes national, state and local Web sites, documents and information and a “Map Checklist,” a listing of maps being created to illustrate the structure of the regional systems. The bibliography can be reviewed on the website at www.myregion.org.
