Members of the Communication and Technical committees met last week in Volusia County, marking the second in a series of informal “get acquainted” and teambuilding meetings as part of the myregion.org program.

These meetings symbolize the essence of the myregion.org initiative to expand thinking and communication throughout Central Florida to better identify the issues that affect the region as a whole. Last month, committee members from Brevard county met at Port Canaveral to share ideas and strategies related to the myregion.org process.

“The enthusiasm and energy associated with planning and then actually meeting have been remarkable,” said Communications Director Vilma Quintana. “As committee members from the different counties get together they’re discovering how much they have in common and that despite a bit of traveling distance, they all interact in the same circles. There’s been great camaraderie and a new energy to work together for this project.”

Participants left the casual meeting with several objectives, including coordinating media opportunities associated with upcoming myregion.org events in Volusia County, looking for ways to assist each committee’s efforts in their assigned tasks, and ways to engage other groups not currently involved in the myregion.org process. Additionally, the two committees agreed to seek other venues in Volusia County for website links, newsletter opportunities and generating fact sheets for targeted groups interested in specific topics.

“All of their ideas were intended to generate more interest and involvement in myregion.org by those who have hesitated or are unsure where they can play a role,” said Jenifer Domerchie, Technical Committee co-chair. “These meetings have drawn us all out further into the region and that means that we’re all starting to think on a more regional level. It’s a great beginning.”
