Leadership Council and CEO Roundtable Meet

The role of government and the future of education were the lead topics in spirited discussions when myregion.org’s Leadership Council and CEO Roundtable met Wednesday, March 20 to review data gathered from last month’s Essential Activities Workshops, part of the data collection phase of the myregion.org initiative.

The Leadership Council, comprised of leaders from business, governments and institutions across seven counties spent more than two hours at the Orlando Sanford Airport in Seminole County reviewing and discussing the “Issues Summaries,” which were prepared by the Technical Committee, one of the several working volunteer teams associated with myregion.org. These are summaries of the statements voiced at the Essential Activities Workshops and will become part of the “Briefing Paper,” which was published last month .

Seminole County Commissioner Randy Morris, Vice-Chair at Large of myregion.org outlined the project process and timeline and described how each step is important in building the framework for the region’s future. Presently, we are at the “Information Gathering” stage, which will continue until May 2002. This process of data collection includes not only community input, but also the gathering of existing data and research provided by the public and private sectors to provide a comprehensive understanding of the region. The Council’s task was to review the material and identify and recommend additional areas, individuals or resources believed to be needed for a complete assessment of the community’s needs and concerns. Click here to add your comments.

In the afternoon The East Central Florida Regional Planning Council hosted the CEO Roundtable, a group of the region’s professional leadership serving in an advisory capacity to the Leadership Council.  At the meeting, the group was charged with reviewing the same material objectives as the as the Leadership Council had reviewed that morning to ensure that the information is current and accurate.

myregion.org is a three-year critical analysis of the region and the data compiled will be used as the foundation for further analysis to determine where Central Florida is situated in 13 different topics that include transportation, environment, tourism, healthcare and education, among others. The outcome of this study is expected to identify the region’s needs today and in the future and how they relate regionally as well as independently in the participating seven county communities.
