A Look at Education

Mention education and watch the sparks fly. It’s one of the hottest topics being addressed in Central Florida, both in the general community as well as part of the myregion.org initiative, an analysis of the issues affecting the seven-county region.

From the status and future of school buildings to the quality of the educational programs and processes, leaders from business, local government and other walks of life are getting involved in identifying the problems and finding solutions.

“I think the overriding thing with education is that we have to look at access for everyone, quality education, the best for everyone,” said Dean O’Brien of Browning Communications and Co-Chair of the Education Committee for myregion.org. “Education is the most important factor in the formation of an adult.”

O’Brien, who co-chairs with Nick Carbone of Poole Carbone Eckbert, Inc., says the education committee’s role in myregion.org is significant. As the foundation for the community and the economy, the education systems in Central Florida’s seven-county region play a critical role.

O’Brien urges everyone to take a look a the briefing paper that is published on the myregion.org website, which details the comments and concerns voiced at the Education session at last month’s “Essential Activities Workshops.” Readers can access that by visiting myregion.org.

“The briefing paper provides a detailed and keen overview of how school officials, executives and members of the public view the current status of the region’s educational needs – what’s being accomplished and what needs to be done, O’Brien said.

“I think the best thing that will come out of this is synergy,” O’Brien notes. “We’re going to find that common thread that helps create a program that works. I really believe that. I wouldn’t be here otherwise.”
