The Killebrew Family – Pillar of Polk County
Sam Killebrew, Jr.

The late Sam Killebrew, Sr., father of myregion.org’s Executive Committee member Sam Killebrew, will be inducted into the Florida Citrus Hall of Fame this week for his 1952 invention of a trailer that increased grove efficiency by eliminating the manual handling of fertilizer.

As a result, he started Killebrew, Inc., to manufacture and sell the machine. The company, which Sam, Jr., guides today, is one of the largest utility construction companies in Central Florida. Located in Lakeland, it provides water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and storm water systems, to public and private sector clients throughout the southeastern United States.

Polk County has also recognized Sam for his multiple contributions to his community. In this story, published by the Lakeland Ledger, Sam talks about his leadership role in myregion.org, detailing the program’s purpose, goals and how it will benefit the county and the region.
