Change of Scenery

When I was a child, every summer, my family would load up the station wagon for a cross-country vacation. (I have been told my family was the inspiration for the movie, Nation Lampoon’s Vacation). Our neighbors would go camping to the same place year after year. We, on the other hand would go to different places each year. After several summers to different destinations, I asked my Dad, "Why can’t we go to the same place that we went to last year? His response was "I like a change of scenery".

Since my graduation from the University of Texas back in 1983, I have had three jobs, the first with Grant Thornton, International, then KPMG, then Gowland, Strealy, Morales & Co, PLLC, all of which are public accounting firms. In my professional life I have decided to take a "change of scenery" opportunity. I have joined a former client of mine, Coastal Bend Workforce Development Board. I am the Director of Administration. I will still be involved in financial aspects of the organization, but will add supervision of facilities, procurement, and information technologies.

My former business partners and staff, and former clients have been very supportive of my move. (I am not so sure that is a good sign).

So far I am enjoying the new "scenery". The most notable immediate change is the lack of need of keeping time reports for client billings. Hopefully, when my journey approaches a tunnel, the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t a train.
