Ohio’s “Sixty Mile River Park” – the Product of Regionalism

As a result of the recommendations of The Metropolitan Growth Alliance, a regional framework program lead by Michael Gallis, three states, Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana have joined forces to develop an ambitious initiative that will create a system of parks, greenways, restaurants, trolleys and museums, along the banks and tributaries of the Ohio River.

A perfect example of what regional cooperation can accomplish, the Ohio River Initiative (ORI) will incorporate various aspects of the region from the environment and economic development, to tourism and culture. Attached, for your review, are the Alliance’s recommendations, as they appeared in the 1999 Greater Cincinnati Metro Region Resourcebook and the Strategic and Business Plan for this five-year innovative plan.

Undoubtedly, this type of regional initiative would not have been achieved without a comprehensive understanding of the region that the framework process brings. We are looking forward to even greater results through myregion.org!
