AirTran Reports Record
September Traffic, 3rd Quarter '02
Orlando-based AirTran Airways
recently reported record passenger traffic, enplanements and capacity for both
the month of September 2002 and for the third quarter 2002.
Based on revenue passenger
miles (RPMs), traffic grew by 60.1 percent, to 381.9 million RPMs, on a 51.9
percent increase in capacity, based on available seat miles (ASMs). Both traffic
and capacity numbers were records for the month of September. Load factor was
58 percent in September 2002 compared to 55.1 percent in September 2001. Year-to-date
load factor was 68.1 percent.
AirTran Airways served a
record 657,870 passengers in September, a 50.9 percent increase over September
2001. For the first nine months of 2002, AirTran Airways served more than seven
million customers, an increase of 10.8 percent over the same period in 2001.
