Chamber wins Statewide Award as Compliance Partner

The San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce was honored in Sacramento by the California Chamber of Commerce as being the leading partner in California to keep businesses compliant by posting mandatory posters in their businesses. The Chamber purchased and mailed to its membership employer posters at the start of the year. Accepting the award from California Chamber of Commerce President, Alan Zaremberg is Chamber Board Chair, Michele Tarbet, CEO of Sharp Grossmont Hospital, and Chamber President/CEO Terry Saverson.

Tournament Focuses on Fun

With the 5th Annual San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament “Grip It and Rip It” fast approaching there are still a few slots for individuals and foursomes who want to spend an afternoon of fun on the links. The tournament entitled “Grip It and Rip It” will be held on the Pine Glen Executive Course at Sycuan Resort and Casino

Summer Healthcare Saturday Coming to Grossmont Center
East County's Largest Health Fair

East County’s largest health fair, Summer Healthcare Saturday will be held at La Mesa’s Grossmont Center on Saturday, June 30th from 10 to 2. Over 60 booths will feature the latest in health information and provide health screenings including diabetes.

Summer Healthcare Saturday is sponsored by the Grossmont Healthcare District, Sharp Grossmont Hospital, Grossmont Center and the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce.

A limited number of booths are still available. For more information call the Chamber at 440-6161.

Ground is Broken for New Library and Post Office in La Mesa Civic Center

La Mesa Mayor Art Madrid, Vice Mayor Ruth Sterling, Councilmembers Dave Allan, Ernie Ewin, and Mark Arapostathis, County Director of Libraries Jose Aponte, and La Mesa Postmaster Rose Estrada all participated in a groundbreaking ceremony to start construction for a new post office and library on the La Mesa Civic Center

Wieghorst Western Heritage Days Set for June 2nd and 3rd

The Olaf Wieghorst Museum Foundation is sponsoring The fifth Annual Wieghorst Western Heritage Days event on Saturday, June 2nd and Sunday June 3rd at the Museum’s location at 131 Rea Ave. in downtown El Cajon.

This special event will be held from 10 am to 6 pm at the Museum on Saturday and 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday. The event will feature artisans, blacksmiths, saddlemakers, mountain men, a Native American Indian village, cowboy poets and live bluegrass and western music. There will also be cowboy storytellers, Old West gunfight “reenactment skits”, line dancing lessons, exhibits and demonstrations.

Schmidt Wins Statewide Award for Advocacy

San Diego East County Chamber Board Member Jim Schmidt, was honored with the California Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Advocate of the Year Award in Sacramento on May 21. Jim was nominated by Chamber President/CEO Terry Saverson who said of Jim "Jim doesn’t just talk about what he believes; he acts on working for those beliefs with the passion of a true advocate. He is a visionary. Jim Schmidt will always commit to making San Diego County a prosperous and successful community for those of us who live here.”

East County Real Estate Issues to Highlight First Friday Breakfast
Providing Networking Opportunities

San Diego County Tax Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk Greg Smith will speak on San Diego County real estate values and other real estate issues. The breakfast is being co-sponsored by Nancy Dennison of Prudential California Realty and Bill Fischbeck of Fischbeck & Oberndorfer, APC.
The breakfast will be held Friday, June 1st, from 7: 15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center located at 6845 University Ave. in San Diego.

Members Get Head Start on Oktoberfest Booths

Commercial and food booth applications for the 2007 La Mesa Oktoberfest will be available to members in good standing of the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce on June 1 and to the general public on July 1. Booths are assigned on a first come first served basis. For more information call the Chamber at (619) 440-6161.
