Posters Can Be Picked Up at Chamber Office

Members in good standing can obtain a FREE 2007 Employment Poster as a thank you gift from the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce by visiting the Chamber office at 201 S. Magnolia in El Cajon during regualr business hours.

These posters, created by the California Chamber of Commerce include the new California minimum wage information and also information on workers’ comp benefits, payday schedule and emergency contacts.

Hansen to be honored for a “Vintage Year” at Denim & Diamonds III
Providing Networking Opportunities

The Dreamcatcher Lounge at Viejas Casino in Alpine will be the site of this year’s Chamber Annual Dinner Dance “Denim & Diamonds III” honoring outgoing Chairman of the Board Mike Hansen of Grossmont Center and CB Richard Ellis. The Gala will be held on Friday, January 26th starting with cocktails at 6:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to mix casual with elegant clothing for the event.

January First Friday Breakfast to Salute 30th Anniversary of the City of Lemon Grove
Providing Networking Opportunities

The first First Friday Breakfast of 2007 will be held at BJ’s Restaurant in Grossmont Center on Friday, January 5th starting at 7:15 a.m.

Lemon Grove Mayor and newly elected chair of SANDAG, Mary Teresa Sessom will be the featured speaker. The City of Lemon Grove will be staging celebrations throughout the year in honor of the 30th Anniversary, and the First Friday Breakfast will be the kick-off.

Sharp Grossmont Hospital CEO, Michele Tarbet begins a year of leading the Board of Directors for the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce. Tarbet heads Sharp Grossmont Hospital, a 481 bed acute care facility in La Mesa, which houses the busiest emergency department in San Diego County.

The 2007 Leadership class took a trip into the past with Day Chair/Historian Eldonna Lay for Arts/History Day. The day is one of eight devoted to a single topic that makes up part of the curriculum for Leadership East County, the Chamber’s 9-month training program to identify and train leaders for the region.

New Year Means New Terms for Local Elected Officials

Both La Mesa and El Cajon Mayoralty and City Council candidates were sworn into office in December. Veteran of the officials was Art Madrid who was sworn in to serve his fifth term as Mayor and his 7th term as a member of the La Mesa City Council. El Cajon City Mayor Mark Lewis was sworn in for his third term.

Antique Street Faire Returns to La Mesa Village

On Sunday, March 25 from 8 am to 4 pm, La Mesa Blvd. will be closed to traffic and 125 antique booths will show their wares. Antique dealers from all over the state will participate with mini “Road Show” appraisal booths to find out the value of your old treasures.

Ground is Broken for New “Smart-Growth” Residential Development in La Mesa
Promoting the Community

The City of La Mesa’s newest, award winning “smart growth” development broke ground on Thursday, December 14th. The $100 million project is a public-private partnership between the City of La Mesa, the Metropolitan Transit System, Fairfield Residential and SANDAG. Fairfield Residential will build 527 one and two bedroom apartments rising three to four stories over two levels of structured parking and about 3,000 square feet of commercial space.

One out of five businesses have suffered a disaster that resulted in suspending operations for a period of time. Add to that troubling number, 90 per cent of small businesses do not have a disaster preparedness plan. It doesn’t’ take a disaster to mean trouble for your business. A business disaster can be a flood, a fire, a cyber attack, or the death of a key employee.
