Chief David Kunkle Honored at Chamber Luncheon
The GEDCC was honored to have Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle speak at the Chamber Luncheon in January. Mary Poss, our Chamber Chairman, emceed the event and enlightened everyone with a few personal stories about Chief Kunkle. Chairman Poss also presented a lovely service award to the Chief for his contribution to the City and the citizens of Dallas.
 
Young Professionals Event a Huge Success
The second annual Young Professionals event was a huge success, with over 250 guests in attendance. The GEDCC joined with other area Chambers in partnership with the EMBA Program at UTDallas and Brookhaven Country Club to co-host this event.

Our next Chamber Monthly Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, February 9th at the Lakewood Country Club. Our Keynote Speaker will be Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert, who will be discussing “The Current State of Affairs in Dallas, Texas”.

Our featured Speakers for upcoming Chamber Luncheons include Steve Blow on Tuesday, March 9th, who will speak on current news topics, and Mike Poss on Tuesday, April 13th, who will speak on “What Will Your Children Owe Washington”. Further details will be provided at a later date.

Going Green With Your Business Free Event at Lakehill Preparatory
Beginning on February 23rd, Lakehill Preparatory School will have the opportunity to showcase its LEED silver certified Alice and Erle Nye Family Environmental Science Center during its first annual Environmental Summit. The Summit is a free speaker series for local business owners, community members, and anyone interested in incorporating green strategies into their life.

C. C. Young's The Point to Host Body, Mind, and Spirit Lecture
C. C. Young’s The Point, as part of their Body, Mind, and Spirit Lecture Series will be hosting a lecture on February 17th at Crum Auditorium on the SMU Campus. The lecture will be presented by Steve Murdock, Ph.D., who will be speaking on “The New Texas Challenge: Population Change and The Future of Texas”.

Garland Road Vision To Hold Public Meetings To Share Study Results
The GRV will be holding public meetings to share study results for the Garland Road Corridor. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, March 25th, at 6:30pm at the Bryan Adams High School Auditorium. The second meeting will be held on Thursday, April 8, at 6:30 pm at the Dallas Arboretum.
 
Vikki Martin from the Ferguson Road Initiative Wins Prestigious Award
The Ferguson Road Initiative (FRI) is proud to announce that Board Member and Founder, Vikki J. Martin, has been named recipient of the 26th Annual Governor’s Volunteer Award for Community Motivator.

Henderson Art Project is Seeking Art Entries
The Henderson Art Project (H.A.P.) is a collaborative effort between business and the arts. They are conducting an art contest where 7 winning sculptures will be selected to be placed and displayed on Henderson Avenue for two years. The winners will also receive monetary prizes.
