Following on the heels of a record-breaking opening of Gunther von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS 2: The Anatomical Exhibition of Real Human Bodies, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science presents a lecture on the mysteries of the human body on Thursday, March 23, at 7 p.m. in Ricketson Auditorium.
Bridget Coughlin, Ph.D., the Museum’s curator of human health, will highlight BODY WORLDS 2 in her lecture, “Modern Lessons in Anatomy.” Coughlin will focus on the influence genetics, lifestyles, and environmental factors play in shaping our health and our gross anatomy. This is the first in a series of lectures presented in conjunction with BODY WORLDS 2, which is at the Museum until July 23.
More than 25,000 people have seen BODY WORLDS 2 since it opened at the Museum on March 10. The Museum hosted the largest opening weekend for the BODY WORLDS exhibitions to date in North America, surpassing other markets such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
During Coughlin’s lecture, the audience will learn about the human body by viewing images of the comparative anatomy of healthy and diseased organs that are exhibited in BODY WORLDS 2. The specimens have been permanently preserved using Dr. von Hagens’ groundbreaking method called Plastination. The process effectively halts decomposition of the deceased body by replacing bodily fluids and soluble fats with polymers.
Tickets for the lecture are $12 for Museum members and students, and $15 for nonmembers. To purchase tickets, call 303.322.7009. For more information about other lectures related to BODY WORLDS 2, visit www.dmns.org.
BODY WORLDS 2 is presented in Denver by Centura Health, Colorado’s largest family of not-for-profit hospitals and health services.
