Medical and non-medical volunteers are needed to help provide free and low-cost health awareness and educational screenings during the 27th Annual 9Health Fair, April 22-30, 2006. More than 93,000 individuals across Colorado are expected to attend one of 9Health Fair’s 175 sites statewide.
Medical volunteers, such as registered nurses, nurse practioners and emergency medical technicians (EMT), are needed to help deliver screenings such as the $30, 31-component blood chemistry screening which analyzes cholesterol levels, triglycerides, glucose, thyroid (TSH), kidney and liver function and more. Medical volunteers are also needed to perform screenings including blood pressure, oral, vision, finger stick glucose, lung function, hearing, skin, prostate/testicular, foot, Pap smear, body in balance, breast, bone density and more.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of 9Health Fair and our community program would not be possible if we didn’t have the generous support from the medical community,” said Anne Cosby, 9Health Fair’s president and CEO.
Non-medical volunteer teams are also needed at 9Health Fair sites to help participants register, conduct form checks, direct traffic flow, perform height/weight/body mass index screenings and much more.
“9Health Fair provides anyone 18 and older with an opportunity to get involved and to impact the health and wellness of people in their community,” said Cosby. In 2005, approximately 18,000 people volunteered at 9Health Fair.
In 2006, 9Health Fair participants can take advantage of more health screenings than ever before, including new Cardio Risk Assessments (CRAs) that help determine a participant’s heart attack risk. Participants can take the online CRA at www.9healthfair.org or they can visit a CRA kiosk at select 9Health Fair sites. Other screenings available include $25 prostatic specific antigen (PSA) screenings for men 40 and older and $5 colon cancer screening take home kits.
To increase 9Health Fair services even further across Colorado, especially to organizations struggling to provide employee health benefits, 2006 9Health Fair blood vouchers can be purchased for $30 each at www.9healthfair.org. The vouchers are available in increments of five and are redeemable at any 9Health Fair site through May 2006.
