Florida's Scallop Season starts in July!
This is a great weekend trip for the outdoors type.
http://www.captainmarkzorn.com/Homosassa%20and%20C...
Last year was my first year diving for our local Gulf of Mexico scallops, and now it will be an annual tradition. Scallop season is open from July 1st to September 10th. Homosassa and Crystal River offer some of the best scalloping in Florida. They usually are in only 6-8 feet of water which make them easy to get even for the novice free diver. They are super sweet and I like them best, seviche style. Scallop limits are
Whole Scallops: 2 gallons per day per person, or 10 gallons per boat or Cleaned Scallops: If you decide to clean your scallops while out on the water, the limit is 1 pint of scallop meat per person per day, or 1/2 gallon per boat.

First Full Moon of May
Soft Shells on the Way!
After the first full moon in May we start to see the molting of the East coast blue crabs. This means soft shells start to hit the market. If you are lucky enough to have a great seafood market that carries them, please enjoy them with some southern style. The traditional taste of the old bay aioli really makes this dish a Maryland and Virginia classic. If you have never tried blue crab...remember to eat the whole thing, shell and all.
