From time to time, we’ll be highlighting “Wow!” stories of DCCCD employees who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help someone. Monica Taliaferro, Brookhaven College director, marketing and public information, commends Stephen Hughes, assistant director of business operations, for going the extra mile on Friday, Aug. 21. She recalls:
It was about 5:15 p.m., and the Student Services Center was almost empty. From the second floor of Building S, I asked the two students on the first floor if they needed help because they were wandering around in the lobby looking a bit lost. The students said they needed to pay their tuition that day so they wouldn’t get de-registered from their classes for nonpayment. The cashier windows were closed, and most employees were already gone.

Bill Tucker Retires After 39 Years of Service to DCCCD
Reflecting back on his 39 years with DCCCD, Bill Tucker admits that he is looking forward to retirement. “I’ve enjoyed my career in Dallas, and I’m thankful to the many people who made my journey here memorable,” he says. “Now I’m looking forward to the next part of my life.”
Coming from a large extended family in Arkansas, Tucker received his Bachelor of Arts from Arkansas State University and Master of Education from the University of Memphis. He undertook additional graduate studies at LSU, Michigan State University and Texas A&M-Commerce.

Five Percent Salary Adjustment Approved by Board
An across-the-board salary adjustment of 5 percent was approved by the DCCCD Board of Trustees at their Sept. 2 meeting. All full-time, limited full-time and part-time personnel, excluding student assistants, employed as of May 31, 2008, are eligible for the increase. The adjustment will be calculated based on the salary in effect on Aug. 31, 2008, and is effective as of Sept. 1, 2008.

Your new salary after adjustment will be accessible via e-connect by Sept. 30. To view and print, select "My Current Wage Information" after logging in from the employee menu.

Daylong Workshop Welcomes New Employees
Are you new to the district? Do you have questions? Find the answers at the New Employee Orientation offered quarterly by Organizational Development.
According to Charles Ruiz, Organizational Development program manager, participants say that the highlight of their day is the conversation with Chancellor Wright Lassiter, including the question and answer session. “They come away with a better understanding of the culture, mission, goals, priorities and values of the district.” he said.
Special presentations include:
- Compensation and benefits by a representative from District Human Resources
- Online software training, professional development courses and technical support by a representative from the LeCroy Center
- “Celebrate What’s Right With the World” video and group discussion
