Need Financial Aid? Don’t Miss the Deadline!
If you’re returning to DCCCD for the summer, fall or spring and need a little help paying for college, be sure to complete the financial aid application process by the deadline.
- • If you plan to attend the Summer I term, you must complete and submit both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2008-2009, if you do not already have one on file with DCCCD, and a DCCCD Summer Supplemental Application by April 1.
- If you plan to attend Fall only, or Fall and Spring semesters, your financial aid file should be completed by May 1. (Important: Even if you filled out a FAFSA for 2008-2009, you will need to fill it out again for 2009-2010.)
- If you plan to attend only the Spring semester, your financial aid file should be completed by Oct. 1.

What Are You Doing Over Spring Break?
Yes, that much-needed mid-semester break will be here soon – it starts March 16. Are you planning a trip to an exotic destination? Will you be volunteering your time for a good cause?
OK, so you might be planning to sleep – or work – or write a research paper. We understand. Sleep is a good thing.
But if you’re doing something a little off the beaten path, we’d love to hear about it. Tell us about your Spring Break adventures, and we just might feature them in an upcoming eNews article. (Just keep it family-friendly, please – no tales of “DCCCD Gone Wild.”)
Send your stories to April Ellis at aellis@dcccd.edu, and include your full name and a phone number where we can reach you in case we need more info.

Student Success Story: Howard LaMunion
Howard LaMunion says, “I wanted to be a police officer since I was about eight, growing up in upstate New York. I liked the way that police officers helped people and put the bad guys in jail.”
Because his father disapproved of his dreams of a law enforcement career, Howard built a successful career in marketing instead. But he never forgot his childhood career ambitions. Eventually he applied to the Dallas Police Department, was accepted and went to Eastfield College’s police academy pre-qualified.
“Later in my career was the perfect time to do it,” he says. “You have a higher level of maturity and life experience, which is a plus for the police department.”
Howard says, “The top advantage at Eastfield was the instructors. They’re all former police officers as well as former leaders — sergeants, lieutenants, detectives — who bring a level of police department discipline to the training.”
Howard graduated from Eastfield College’s Criminal Justice Training Center in January 2007 and joined the Dallas Police Department as a reserve patrol officer, fulfilling his lifelong dream.
Could you be the next success story?
