Get a “Cool” Career That’s Always in Demand
Texans can’t cope without air conditioning, no matter how the economy’s doing. That’s just one of many reasons why you may want to investigate a career in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (or HVACR for short).
Actually, demand for skilled HVACR technicians has grown significantly nationwide. HVACR systems are increasingly complex, meaning they need service more often. And rapidly changing laws require skilled technicians who stay up-to-date on the latest regulations.
So if you like working with your hands and would enjoy the challenge of working with different machines and a variety of people, this career field could provide wonderful opportunities for you.
DCCCD’s Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology program, offered by Cedar Valley and Eastfield colleges, can prepare you for a career as an HVACR technician. Visit http://www.dcccd.edu/ACR for more information.

College You Can Afford!
Same course, same learning objectives, same quality of instruction, better price! A three credit-hour course at DCCCD costs $123. The same course at UTA costs $875 and at UTD, $1,805. How can DCCCD offer the same course and charge so much less?
“Community” is key to the answer about cost at DCCCD. As a community college, DCCCD is college for the people, funded by the people. A portion of local property taxes collected annually by Dallas County supports DCCCD. Those tax dollars, in conjunction with funding from the state of Texas and DCCCD’s tuition charges, make it possible for the college district to provide high-quality course offerings at one of the lowest tuition rates in the state. Because state and private universities don’t have a local tax base for additional support, they must charge higher tuition rates.
As a Dallas County resident, DCCCD is your community college. Take advantage of an affordable college education at one of the best community college systems in the country. It all begins here.

Student Success Story: Kathy Dana
When Kathy Dana decided she didn’t want to wait tables for a living anymore, she went to work for her dad’s air conditioning business. DCCCD’s Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology program gave her the technical knowledge she needed to help the family business succeed.
“It was sometimes challenging because there weren’t a lot of other women in the program, but I ended up being someone who helped everybody else,” Kathy says.
Kathy worked days and attended class at night four days a week, which wasn’t easy. But she says having a quality education under her belt made the hard work worthwhile.
“People see me driving the company truck and ask me where they should go to school if they want to be in this business,” she says. “I tell them, don’t spend $40,000 on an education when DCCCD has an even better program at a fraction of the cost. You’re still going to need field experience to get a job, but you’ve also got to have that educational base.”
Could you be the next success story?
