Facebook, RSS and Twitter: Let’s Get Connected
Have you seen our videos on YouTube, or visited our MySpace page? Well, we’ve opened up other ways to connect with you, like our Twitter feed, RSS feeds and Facebook page.
Are you on Facebook? Add your Student NetMail e-mail address to your profile and connect with other DCCCD students in the DCCCD network. Come see the DCCCD page on Facebook (login required). Become a “fan” and we’ll send you important messages (but not too many) about districtwide events. You can also see some of the videos we’ve made and write on our wall. We want to hear from you, so come see us!
Do you tweet? Twitter is a way to communicate in updates of 140 characters or less with people you “follow.” Follow us on Twitter and get reminders and updates on news, events and other important happenings. We’ll follow you back, and if you need anything, don’t forget to tweet @dcccd!
RSS feeds are a way to get the latest content from Web sites you like all in one place, like e-mail in your inbox. DCCCD has RSS feeds for news, events and DCCCD job openings that can be sent directly to your feed reader. That way, checking out our latest event, or being reminded that Thursday is a holiday so you don’t have to go to class, is as easy as pie.
Have any questions about these new services? Tell us what you think — e-mail Colleen Lin, district Web site content developer.

Stop Before You Drop
Are you aware of the new “six drop” law? Under a new Texas law (TEC Section 51.907), if you drop too many classes without having an acceptable reason, your GPA could be affected. Be sure you understand how this law may affect you before you drop a class.
The new law applies to students who enroll in a Texas public institution of higher education (including DCCCD) for the first time in fall 2007 or later. Under this law, you may not drop more than six classes without an acceptable reason during your entire undergraduate career without penalty.

Consider a Career in Biotechnology
If you’re like most people, the term “biotechnology” probably doesn’t mean much to you. But if you’re fascinated by biology and like the idea of working in a lab, it’s definitely worth your time to learn more about this booming industry. And DCCCD’s Biotechnology program can give you the knowledge and skills you need to make this field part of your future.
Biotechnology, in its simplest definition, means using living things to make products or processes. A wide range of applications for biotechnology have been developed, and new uses continue to be discovered. Here are just a few examples:
- creating medicines that are more effective and have fewer side effects
- increasing nutritional qualities of food crops
- using microbes to clean up pollution such as coastal spills
- converting waste, such as manure, into plastic or biofuel
The biotechnology field is expected to generate many new jobs in the next few years, but more trained workers are desperately needed.
Learn how DCCCD can help you prepare for this growing industry at http://www.dcccd.edu/biotech.
