Boost Your Chances for Transfer Success
 Are you planning to transfer to a four-year university after you leave DCCCD? If so, here are some quick tips courtesy of Gregg Williams, district director, Transfer Services/Articulation and University Relations.
According to Gregg, statistics show that students who transfer have a better chance of successfully completing a bachelor’s degree if they:
- Go to school continuously, taking classes every fall, spring and summer semester. You might be tempted to take a semester off, especially if you’re juggling school, work and family responsibilities. But if you keep going every semester, making steady progress toward your goals, that will help you stay on track.
- Finish the Core Curriculum at community college. Texas law guarantees that if you successfully complete the Core Curriculum at community college, any Texas public college or university will accept it as a block of credit. That means you won’t have to take English 101 again!
- Complete an associate degree. Having an associate degree on your resume can help you get a better, higher-paying job that will help you pay the higher tuition costs at a four-year school. (According to the College Board, in 2005, the median income for high school graduates was $32,200; the median income for associate degree holders was $41,200.)
