Beat Final Exam Stress

Beat stress and get those exams licked.How can you avoid stress during final exams? It’s all in the planning and mental preparation — plus some common-sense ways to keep yourself healthy and well-prepared.

Here are some simple steps you can take to avoid stress overload during final exams from Joel Riley, a counselor at Cedar Valley College:

  • Get enough rest and sleep. 
  • Eat sensible, well-balanced meals.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Get organized.
  • Avoid self-medication (alcohol and illegal drugs).
  • Learn to relax.

Financial Aid: Don’t Run Out of Funds!

Losing money is the worst.If you receive financial aid, the award letter that is sent to you in the fall normally lists your awards for the whole academic year. But if you don’t manage your eligibility carefully, you might find yourself in a crunch. Each semester, a large number of students run out of financial aid eligibility before finishing their degree or certificate. When that happens, some of their awards have to be reduced or even canceled.

Scary thought, huh? Well, don’t panic … the Financial Aid Office has some helpful hints you can follow to avoid being one of those students.

Did You Know … ?

So many options!… that DCCCD offers special Flex Term classes starting every month of the year? These classes have unique schedules that don’t correspond with the regular academic calendar. Flex Term classes run for various lengths of time, from three weeks to 20 weeks!

Some Flex Term classes are held on campus, while others are Internet-based. Subjects offered in classes beginning in January include accounting, English, Web design, self-defense, real estate, Spanish and more.
