House Higher Education Committee

The House Higher Education Committee held its first hearing on Wednesday. Chairman Dan Branch used this meeting to lay the foundation for the committee’s work. In his opening remarks, he spoke favorably about community colleges and their unique role in the state’s higher education system.

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Commissioner Raymund Parades, as well as staff members from the Legislative Budget Board, testified and provided a broad overview of issues in the higher education sector. The committee currently has referred 62 bills and should begin substantive hearings during the next week or two.
