Cost of Gas Got You Down? Try Public Transportation

DART can get you anywhere in Dallas! Photo courtesy of Dallas Area Rapid TransitIf you’re cringing every time you fill up your tank these days (and who isn’t), why not give public transportation a try? Taking the bus or train to school:

  • • saves money
  • • lets you read or relax instead of fighting traffic
  • • helps protect the environment
The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Web site offers all kinds of helpful information, including an interactive DART trip planner, bus and rail schedules and maps, information about fares and more.

If you prefer, you can call DART’s Customer Information line at 214-979-1111. Just tell them where you need to go and when, and they’ll help you develop a customized trip plan.

Here is some DART-related information for specific DCCCD campuses:

BrookhavenDART on Call serves the Brookhaven area. Bus routes 488 and 486 stop at BHC.

Cedar Valley — The Cedar Valley campus is the farthest stop south of the Trinity River on the DART route. Just take bus 553 from the Ledbetter Station.

Eastfield College — DART comes directly to Eastfield’s door; take bus route 110. DART schedules are available on campus.

El Centro — Qualified ECC students can ride DART free when enrolled in at least six spring or fall semester credit hours or 96 contact hours in a single quarter for continuing education students. Visit the Cashier’s Office for more information or to obtain a pass.

El Centro is located one block from the West End rail station and the DART West Transfer Center (bus station). Bus stops are located all around the college and up and down Elm Street and Main Street.

Mountain View — DART delivers students directly to MVC’s east entrance, with a bus stop conveniently located off Knoxville Avenue.

North Lake — DART comes directly to North Lake’s door, with a bus stop located between buildings A and P. DART schedules are available on campus.

Richland — RLC has two bus stops on campus: one on Walnut Street by the east entrance, and one on campus by the Tree Farm. Monthly DART passes are sold at the Cashier’s Window.
