Ted Gimlin volunteers for Multi-Service Center’s Federal Way Food Bank because it makes him feel good.

“Few people really get a chance to do something substantive for their fellow human beings, but volunteering is one way,” he said during his early morning route to pick up food from area grocery stores. Gimlin, a retiree from a long career at Boeing started volunteering at MSC at the urging of his father-in-law, who also volunteers for MSC. “He felt I wasn’t doing enough with my time, so he got me started here,” Gimlin said. “Now, volunteering has become an integral part of my life.”

Gimlin is one of hundreds of volunteers who will be honored for their service this week at the agency’s annual volunteer luncheon.

Volunteers will be recognized for their 72,992 collective hours of service in 2008, an amount worth (conservatively) $729,920 to the agency.
