Multi-Service Center’s Food Bank Campaign Urges Gardeners to Plant an Extra Row

As local gardeners churn up ground for their gardens this spring, they are urged to think about Multi-Service Center’s Federal Way Food Bank in their planting. The food bank recently kicked off their Grow a Row campaign, asking gardeners to plant a row and share the bounty this summer with the food bank.

While MSC’s food bank typically purchases produce year-round, making it available each day, the variety is often lacking, even in summer months. Organizers of the food bank’s Grow a Row campaign are hopeful that gardeners will share the rich bounty of summer with their neighbors in need.

“Garden-fresh produce is such a popular item with our clients,” said Terri Turner, food bank manager, Multi-Service Center. “Of course, it’s a healthier item to have on the table, but also our clients really appreciate the wide choices they have.”

Whether gardeners have a small bag of extras from their gardens, or multiple boxes full, the food bank will use it all. “We hope this campaign will prompt people to pick all the fruit from their trees this year, and donate all those extra zucchini and squash that people often get too many of,” Turner added. “Nothing will go to waste here.”
