Security Watch - Keeping a Real-Time Eye on Security

Safety and security have always been top priorities for financial services firms, retailers and government agencies. While video has served as a traditional surveillance tool, it lacks the ability to provide real-time data that is critical to effective response and the continued safety of employees and customers.

With the convergence of digital video, video compression and IP networking, businesses can now enhance security monitoring with wireless IP video surveillance, an Internet-based, real-time video-monitoring network. With IP video, cameras can be positioned just about anywhere without the need to adhere to strict technical requirements. Business owners, security officers and law enforcement can tap into existing video networks and work together to remotely monitor security breaches as they occur, initiate immediate calls for help and respond with greater efficiency and effectiveness. Using wireless technology, security personnel or company officers can capture images and instantaneously send them to the laptops and PDAs or directly into the vehicles of security personnel and law enforcement in the field. Furthermore, security personnel can digitally store data to enable easy and secure access for viewing, recording and conducting quick searches of specific events or figures for use in prosecution.

To learn more about wireless IP video surveillance, contact your Compuquip Technologies representative or send an e-mail to ipvideo@compuquip.com.

Tech Tip of the Month – Cabling Advancements

Five years ago, two research-driven companies in the cabling industry united to deliver world-class performance in the infrastructure of networks of varying size and complexity. The result is NetClear, an alliance of Berk-Tek, which manufactures copper and fiber optic cables to specifications that outpace all of its competitors, and Ortronics, which produces high-performance connectivity solutions, including patch panels, patch cords, workstation outlets, cable management systems and 110 cross-connect systems.

NetClear offers complete end-to-end solutions, encompassing copper, single- and multi-mode fiber, workstation outlets and cross-connect panels – everything you need for a comprehensive cabling project that are tested and warranted for 25 years to perform beyond industry standards.

Fewer than 5 percent of cabling companies have qualified as certified Berk-Tek/Ortronics installers. Compuquip Technologies is proud to hold that distinction in South Florida.

Recently, NetClear introduced XGLAN 10-Gigabit cabling solutions.  XGLAN fiber solutions feature Berk-Tek's enhanced 50-micron GIGAlite multi-mode fiber and Ortronics’ OptiMo fiber optic connectivity to guarantee Gigabit Ethernet across 750 meters. It also guarantees 10-Gigabit Ethernet transmissions to 150 meters – all for the price of standard 50-micron cable.

If the size of your network demands delivering 10 Gigs over a longer distance, XGLAN fiber cabling can be upgraded to guarantee 10-Gigabit Ethernet support to 600 meters.  Furthermore, NetClear’s single-mode solution can support a campus-wide or Metropolitan Area Network rollout that is capable of supporting 10 Gig Ethernet at distances up to 40 kilometers and beyond.

What does that mean to you?

It means our NetClear partners have effectively doubled the reach of Enterprise 10 Gigabit Ethernet backbones. Compuquip Technologies' customers can now realize bandwidth capacity that is unmatched in the industry. Even within the horizontal cabling of your Local Area Network, Compuquip and NetClear can provide the cabling industry’s only field verifiable installed margin guarantees over CAT6.

Translation: Although the IT industry has not yet developed a performance standard for the transmission of 10 Gigabit Ethernet over copper cabling, Berk-Tek and Ortronics are able to demonstrate that their NetClear Category 6 cabling system has the ability to support 10 Gigabit Ethernet transmission over the Cat 6 NetClear cabling system.

With our shared vision of delivering structured cabling systems with maximized dynamic performance over real-world networks, Compuquip Technologies, together with our partners Berk-Tek and Ortronics, consistently delivers fully warranted cabling solutions that guarantee performance above industry standards.
