Compuquip Celebrates its 23rd Year in Business
As this year comes to a close, Compuquip Technologies celebrates its 23rd year in business. Over the last two decades, our company has continued to grow by adding new products, staff and service divisions to support our customers’ evolving needs.
While we’ve transformed our company from a hardware sales and leasing firm into one of Florida’s largest systems-technology integrators, we’ve enjoyed working closely with our customers and supporting the growth of their businesses.
In 2003, we opened an office in Tampa and hired a seasoned security expert. In addition, we’ve established a Government Sales Division to cater to the unique needs of the public sector. Furthermore, we’ve expanded our tech support team to provide our customers with higher levels of service and expertise.
What we are most proud of is the long-standing client relationships that we developed over the last 23 years. Looking ahead, we will continue to strengthen the foundation we’ve built and add new products and services to improve the processes of our customers’ businesses.
Thank you,
Alberto Dosal

Security Watch – Check Point Introduces Advancement in Firewall Technology
Currently, the most serious and sophisticated threats to network security come from attacks that target and expose application and server vulnerabilities. Many traditional firewalls, which stop 90 percent of all network attacks, are not suited to detect and thwart attacks at the application level. To overcome this challenge, Check Point recently introduced Application Intelligence, a set of advanced capabilities, integrated into Check Point FireWall-1 NG and SmartDefense, which detect and prevent application-level attacks. Application Intelligence redefines the network security landscape by evolving FireWall-1 into the only security gateway solution that integrates both network and application-level capabilities to deliver comprehensive attack protection and network security. For more information, please visit http://www.checkpoint.com/appint/index.html.
Compuquip Technologies will be hosting a Checkpoint Seminar in January 2004 where we will examine the benefits of Application Intelligence on the Checkpoint Firewall. For additional information or to register for this event, please click on the following link.

Tech Tip – The Wireless Office
In our personal lives, we rely on cellular phones, cordless phones and PDAs. However, many executives have failed to embrace the benefits of wireless technology in the workplace. Well, it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee. The wireless office has arrived, and it’s being fueled by new technologies that meet the needs of the increasingly mobile workforce.
Businesses of all sizes are benefiting from wireless local area networks (WLAN), which have proven to significantly increase worker productivity and satisfaction, without increasing costs. Microsoft recently implemented a wireless network across its entire campus that it projects will will improve productivity by more than 30 minutes per day per employee.
Configuring and installing wires and cabling to keep your office “connected” and your staff properly “networked” can cost a great deal of time and money. Furthermore, these wires confine employees to their desks and slow down work processes. However, with the deployment of a WLAN, which employs air stations or wireless hubs, workers can gain mobility and secure access to the same tools and applications available at their desktops, even if they are in other offices or at remote locations. In addition, a WLAN eliminates the costs of running cables to individual desks as new employees are hired. This saves significant time in getting workers up and running quickly. It can also extend corporate services and information to visiting contract employees.
Furthermore, the addition of voice over WLAN capabilities doesn’t increase costs to a company’s technology base. Instead, it builds on an existing investment. And thanks to the packaging of IP-based telephony servers in small platforms, these advanced technologies easily suit the needs of businesses. In the long term, a voice over WLAN system heightens employees’ productivity and reduces telecom costs – a winning proposition for any company.

Customer Case Study – Bermello Ajamil & Partners
As one of the largest architecture and engineering firms in Florida, Bermello Ajamil & Partners (B&A) couldn’t afford technology downtime for its more than 200 employees. However, the firm faced frequent systems failures that slowed down business processes and had the potential to impede operations. When the system faced a potentially fatal failure,B&A’s director of MIS, Rusty Cox, called on Compuquip Technologies, which sent a team to B&A’s offices within one hour. Two hours later, Compuquip’s engineers reconfigured the network and had B&A’s systems up and running perfectly. Today, B&A relies on Compuquip for all its technology needs, including the purchase of hardware systems, which B&A previously purchased through big-box office retailers and catalogs.
“Compuquip provides us with unparalleled services and value for our investment in IT services,” Cox said. “The added expertise we receive – for the configuration and optimization of our systems – is a remarkable benefit for which we now rely on Compuquip as our premier IT service provider.”
