Security Seminar Delves into the World of the Hacker

Internet Security Systems and Compuquip Technologies recently hosted a seminar on computer and Internet security.  The more than 50 South Florida IT professionals who attended got a first-hand look at how hackers infiltrate networks as well as an overview of what’s available to keep them out.

The seminar covered managed intrusion detection, firewalls and other ways companies can protect networks.  Presentations about the vulnerabilities of wireless networks and instant messaging proved to be eye openers, but the highlight of the seminar was the detailed presentation of the actual means that hackers use to gain entry, deface a Web site and manipulate billing and accounts payable applications.  Thankfully, it also demonstrated how adequate protections effectively prevent the vast majority of attacks.
