Compliance starts at the front door!!!

Compliance starts at the front door of your dealership. Usually this is the door to your physical building, but more and more the home page of your Web site is the front door for many customers. Most of us in the industry have been trying to pay attention to finance and insurance ( F&I) and the methods used in finalizing the paperwork. A large part of what goes on in F&I starts with the way the customer is handled from the first contact at the dealership, or a lead from the Web site. Good compliance requires that all precautions be taken to protect the organization that feeds us.

Gramm-Leach-Bliley Information Safeguards rules still an issue for nation's car dealers.

During April 2007, The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) today that it resolved its lawsuit with Jeff Wyler Eastgate, Inc. and 10 additional Jeff Wyler-owned dealerships. The suit was brought by the EEOC on behalf of 39 women alleging sexual discrimination. Public disclosure of the settlement states that Eastgate will be paying 2.3 million to the class members (http://www.workplaceanswers.com/news/Sex-Bias-Suit-Against-Auto-Dealer-Settled-for-$2.3210.aspx).

DUMPSTER DIVING IN TEXAS
Case against EZCORP is fifth ID theft enforcement action by Attorney General in recent weeks

On May 8, 2007 the Texas Attorney General announced that its office had found more gold in Texas business dumpsters. The announcement came as the Attorney General’s office promoted its ongoing campaign against businesses who are mishandling customer information. The latest case is against EZCORP. EZCORP operates a chain of pawn stores in Texas. Apparently, Attorney General investigators have been crawling through the dumpsters and trash of EZCORP stores finding information that should have been shredded...
