Dance Fusion welcomes renowned guest performer

The annual Dance Fusion welcomes new guests for its three performances Friday-Saturday, Nov. 13-14.

In addition to the Collin Dance Ensemble, Dance Fusion will feature the stylings of renowned performer and choreographer jhon r. stronks and the Elledanceworks Dance Company.

Shows are 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, at the John Anthony Theatre located on the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.

Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens.

As an independent performer and choreographer, jhon r. stronks has worked around the country. As a performer he has danced with Winifred R. Harris’ Between Lines, Keith Johnson and Dancers, Duende Dance Theater, Coriolis Dance Project, Sandra Organ Dance Company and others. His choreography has been commissioned by The Houston Metropolitan Dance Center, Dancers Core’s MFA Houston Projects, California State University, Moving in the Spirit. He spent five years as the resident guest artist/choreographer for Spelman College’s Dance Theatre.

In July, stronks visited Collin College and worked with six Collin Dance Ensemble students creating “Pulling Clouds from the Ground,” which will be premiered at Dance Fusion.

Elledanceworks Dance Company has been performing regionally and in the Metroplex for 13 years presenting concerts, participating in educational and choreographic residencies and performing as guests of other arts organizations and institutions. Elledanceworks Dance Company is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, the professional dance company in residence at Collin College and is co-directed by Ronelle Eddings and Michele Hanlon.

Collin Dance Ensemble, the resident performing company for Collin College, performs innovative contemporary modern dance. Under the direction of Tiffanee Arnold, the company tours throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area, performing in local concerts and festivals. The dance company attends and performs at the American College Dance Festival annually and has been selected for the Gala Performance at the regional festivals six times. The company has also performed in New York City at the American College National Dance Festival.

The 2009-10 season includes a Dance Exchange with Lamar University in November and the American College Dance Festival at Northwestern State University in Louisiana in April.

Dancers involved in CDE have opportunities to work with professional dance companies. Former residencies include: Cheryl Chaddick Dance Theatre, Janice Garrett & Dancers, Battleworks Dance Company, Pilobolus Too, Eisenhower Dance Ensemble from Michigan, Houston Metropolitan Dance Company and others.
