Campus Dates

The Respiratory Care program will host a final information session during the fall semester. The final session is 2:30-4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the Central Park Campus, D104a. Students who are interested in a career in the health care field should come to hear about the profession of respiratory care, employment prospects, educational preparation to gain admission and more. The Health Information Technology and Coding/Transcription program will host information sessions for those interested in the field from 6-7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Central Park Campus, Room D106a; and 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Spring Creek Campus, Room I111. Students can receive Health Information Technology packets, admissions criteria, program expectations, course sequences and prerequisites, and salary and career options. Librarian Terri Karlseng will present “Databases that Dazzle!” from 12:30-1:15 p.m., Monday, Nov. 2, at the Preston Ridge Campus library wireless lounge. Karlseng will discuss the merits of Anatomy TV, ARTstor, Films on Demand, Theater in (streaming) Video and Smithsonian Global Sound (streaming music).


Collin College invites the public to attend Passport to the World: Collin College’s Cultural Connections, a seven-part series in which faculty focus on different cultures, lifestyles, politics and ways of thinking throughout the world. All events are free. The third event, Siberia: The Surprising Side of Russia, is from noon-1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4 at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center. Dr. Don Weasenforth, professor of English as a second language, Tom Hudgins, professor of economics, and Sharon Hudgins, professor of psychology, will be the faculty presenters. A series of blood drives are being held at Collin College campuses in mid-November. A drive will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Spring Creek Campus Atriu, the Central Park Campus, Room B106, or the Preston Ridge Campus Shawnee Room. Another drive will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Spring Creek Campus Atrium. Every participant will receive a free cholesterol screening and a T-shirt.


The annual Dance Fusion is set for 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, at the John Anthony Theatre. Tickets are $8 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens. The show will feature the Collin Dance Ensemble and jhon r. stronks. Call 972.881.5107 or visit www.ccccd.edu/dance. 


As part of its “meta-cinema” theme, the Auteur Film Series will screen Sullivan’s Travels at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center. The screening is free and open to the public. Sullivan’s Travels runs 90 minutes and chronicles the trials of director John L. Sullivan, who wants to make a social-program film despite knowing nothing about trouble or poverty. In order to learn, he hits the road as a hobo. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Seating is limited. Some material may not be suitable for all audiences. The film is rated Approved. The film will be followed by a panel discussion led by Collin College faculty and staff. The Institute for Hospitality and Culinary Education has scheduled a number of student orientations from November through January. Attending at least one orientation is required for any student interested in taking a culinary or pastry arts lab class. The orientations are scheduled for: 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 16; 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20; 6 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2; 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4; 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 5; 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 5; and 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 11 All orientations will be at the Preston Ridge Campus Alumni Hall, Room A150.
