Program helps bridge high school students to college math
Math can be scary. But Collin College wants to help take the bite out of college mathematics with its free Summer Math Bridge program.

The program is designed for students entering college, who want a refresher math course before they take on college math classes. It is specifically designed for those who are not yet ready for college algebra. The program is taught by Collin College professors and is meant to ready the student for college coursework and revitalize the skills learned in algebra II in high school.

The program is set for Monday, July 20-Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Spring Creek Campus, Room H224. The course is on Monday through Thursdays from 10:10 a.m.-12:10 p.m. The campus is located at 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Textbooks will be provided, but students will be responsible for providing their own calculators.

Space is limited. Students must complete and return an application and take a free math assessment at any Collin College campus by Friday, July 10.

Testing centers for the math assessment are located at: Central Park Campus, Room B342; Preston Ridge Campus, Room F208; and Spring Creek Campus, Room J232. Hours are 8 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday; and 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday. The last test is administered two hours before closing.

Applications for the Summer Math Bridge program are available online at www.ccccd.edu/destinationcollege. They can be e-mailed to destinationcollege@ccccd.edu, faxed to Ashley Adkins/Destination College at 972.377.1739 or mailed to the attention of Ashley Adkins, F115, 9700 Wade Blvd., Frisco, TX 75035.
