New degrees on menu for fall 2008
Over the past several months, Collin College has added several new degrees and programs to its already bursting stable of areas of study.
With the fall semester coming and registration already going, here is a recap of those new degrees.
Green Interior and Architectural Design AAS
Collin College students will be able to experience the Green movement that is shaking the world by participating in the college’s new Green Design Initiative beginning in the fall 2008 with a new Green associate of applied science degree plan coming soon.
The Green Design Initiative is a project within the college’s Interior and Architectural Design AAS program.
It provides courses that are helpful to interested students seeking to enhance their knowledge of Green Design, as well as students wanting an AAS degree in Interior and Architectural Design with an emphasis on Green and Sustainable Design.
Through the Green Design Initiative, students will be introduced to concepts of Green Design, Green Building and Green Remodeling.

Collin College is introducing a new International Business associate of applied science degree for the fall 2008.
The degree total 61 credit hours and includes the courses “Introduction to International Business and Trade,” “Global Logistics Management,” “International Marketing Management” and “Global Supply Chain Management.”
In addition to the new degree, a new certificate in International Business will be available this fall.
According to Cockerell, all courses will transfer to universities that offer a bachelor of applied arts and sciences and with which Collin College has articulation agreements. She encourages students who plan to earn something other than a BAAS to check with their university of choice to determine which classes will transfer.

Culinary Arts AAS
The phrase “food for thought” has a new meaning at Collin College.
It was recently announced that a new associate of applied science degree in culinary arts was approved and will be offered starting in fall 2008.
The existing hotel and restaurant management degree will continue, but the new degree, according to Karen Musa, chair of the Hospitality & Foodservice Management program, said the new degree will add spice to the college’s reputation.
The new degree, she added, will give the culinary students a better skill set when they graduate. Also, she has worked with Texas Woman's University to create an articulation agreement that will set a student with a culinary arts degree at Collin College to transfer seamlessly to TWU to earn a bachelor’s degree.
