Collin College sees red

The Red Flag Campaign is the first statewide public awareness campaign to address dating violence and promote the prevention of dating violence on Virginia’s college campuses. For more information, visit www.theredflagcampaign.org.

The Red Flag Campaign is being coordinated at Collin College, too. If you see groups of miniature red flags staked into the ground outside of Spring Creek, Preston Ridge or Central Park campuses, visit a nearby Red Flag resource table for games, food and prizes.

In addition, Red Flag posters will be displayed throughout student common areas. The posters focus on six components of dating violence and how friends can object to the negative behavior before it escalates. Poster components are:

  • Coercion
  • Emotional abuse
  • Isolation
  • Jealousy
  • Sexual assault
  • Victim blaming

  • The other side of each poster explains in greater depth the hallmarks of healthy relationships, contrasted with relationships in which dating violence is occurring.

The Red Flag Campaign is coordinated by ZERO Tolerance of Violence, a project of Collin College in partnership with The Turning Point and Hope’s Door.

Stop by a Red Flag resource table for:

  • Relationship quiz games
  • Prizes / Give Away
  • Educational pamphlets
  • Snacks

  • The Red Flag resource table will be at the following campuses:

    Spring Creek Campus Atrium
    10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
    Tuesday, June 17-Thursday, June 19

    Preston Ridge Campus Founders Hall
    10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
    Tuesday, June 24-Thursday, June 26

For more information, contact Sandy Suvannachakkham at ssuvannachak@ccccd.edu or 972.881.5820.
