Collin College’s Nursing Program has received Continuing Approval with Commendation from the Board of Nursing. The commendation is for the program’s 98.28 percent pass rate on the 2007 NCLEX-RN examination. 

 

Dr. Sonja Andrus, professor of English, received her doctorate in English from Texas A&M University-Commerce. 

 

Jackie Langford, Simulation Lab director, published “Anaphylaxis,” in the May/June issue of Texas EMS magazine, a publication of the Texas Department of State Health Services. The article presents an in-depth review of anaphylaxis, its effects on body systems, clinical presentation, patient management and medications used in treatment and is offered as a mail-in continuing education course for those certified in EMS.

 

Destination College and Cougar Smart Money co-sponsored a new event, Cougar Town, May 7, at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center. More than 200 high school students participated in the hands-on simulation in which they learned the value of education and its effect on potential earnings.  Students took on careers, salaries, families and the associated financial responsibilities of the adult world including taxes, groceries, housing, transportation, and child care, all in a two and one-half hour simulation. 

 

Sally Jayne Gilpin, associate professor of English, received notification that her paper “The Wife’s Lament and the Elusive Abode” has been accepted for presentation at the 2008 International Medieval Congress, set for July 7-10 in Leeds, England. Professor Gilpin will also serve as a session chair.
