Quick Facts

The objective of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s (THECB) new community college accountability system is to track performance on critical measures to demonstrate the degree to which Texas community colleges achieve their statutorily mandated mission.

The accountability measures for two-year institutions are organized into four areas:  participation, success, excellence, and institutional effectiveness. For purposes of comparison, the THECB assigned each Texas community college to peer groups based on enrollment size.
Collin College falls into the “very large college” category along with Alamo, Austin, Dallas County, El Paso, Houston, Lonestar, San Jacinto, South Texas and Tarrant county community college districts.

The four tables below provide a brief sampling of how Collin compares to its peers on a few selected accountability measures.  For more information, visit the THECB website.

In terms of participation, Collin College experienced a 57 percent increase in credit student enrollment compared to 36 percent for its peers from fall 2000 to fall 2007. Enrollment of ethnic minorities (Blacks, Hispanics, Asians and Native Americans) at Collin more than doubled its minority population.

With regard to success, Collin College’s FY2006 two-, three- and six-year graduation rates were higher than those of its peers. Looking at one excellence measure, licensure pass rates for the state and national exams for most Collin College programs is above 95 percent. Only limited peer data are available.

Turning to a key institutional effectiveness measure, Collin College’s administrative costs as percentage of total expenditures have tended to be comparable to or lower than those for its peers, though administrative costs for most institutions dropped in FY2007 because the state adopted a new definition of administrative costs.
