College hosts tennis tourney, Cougars place eighth in nation
The Collin College men's tennis team placed eighth at the national tournament in May.

The eyes of the NJCAA tennis world were on Collin College May 12-16.

Laredo Community College won their fourth consecutive national championship during the Men’s National Tennis Tournament held at Collin College. Tyler Junior College placed second, and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College placed third.

Collin College had the best season in its storied history, but placed eighth. The Cougars had five second-round singles wins and one second-round doubles win.

Cougar freshman Dmitri Kaforin reached the semi-finals of Flight Five singles, where he lost a contest to the fourth seed, Chris King of Vincennes University (7-6, 6-1). Kaforin went on to attain a semifinal berth in the number two doubles slot with his partner, sophomore Marius Tangen, where they were defeated 6-1, 6-3 by the top seeds, Maxime Moreau and Jose Tolentino of Laredo Community College.

Dmitri Kaforin, Jordan Vicain and Francisco Osorio are the only returning men players.
