Student portal opens June 2

On June 2, students will be able to experience the new phase of Collin College online – CougarWeb.

CougarWeb is a student web portal powered by the new Banner administrative software system, which the college began implementing in 2006. CougarWeb will offer new shortcuts to common information stored in Banner.

What is CougarWeb?
CougarWeb is a secure webpage that recognizes visitors based on their role as Collin College students, faculty, employees or guests. It delivers personalized content, kind of like My Yahoo! or My MSN. CougarWeb brings many tasks, pieces of information and reports to one place, so you don’t have to remember multiple user names and passwords. After logging in, different tabs and content will be displayed for students, faculty, employees and guests. Each tab contains boxes of content called channels.

Starting June 2, students can:

  • Register -- Registration for the fall 2008 semester will be done entirely through CougarWeb. Advantages include real-time class availability. Students can see which courses are not full as it is at that moment.
  • E-mail -- CougarWeb will feature a new e-mail system for students through Gmail.
  • Course Studio -- Students enrolled in classes onsite can enter a “virtual classroom” where classmates can leave messages and professors can disseminate assignment or readings changes, post photos and articles.
  • Group Studio -- Set up for student organizations or study groups, students can leave messages, e-mail each other, share links, photos and articles.
  • Announcement page -- Here, students can learn about campus closures, class cancellations and campus news. Or professors can notify students about changes in assignments, readings or classroom notices.
  • Transcripts and degree plans -- Get access to your transcript and degree plans. Find out which classes you need to graduate at the tip of your fingers.

How do I log in?
Student usernames and passwords will be sent to his or her home the week of June 2.

Students can log in to CougarWeb at http://cougarweb.ccccd.edu or find a link on college’s homepage for a CougarWeb link. Once inside, browse through the tabs and take advantage of all the resources available with just one password.

Who do I call for help?
Students should call the HelpDesk for access issues at 972.377.1777. They can also check out the tutorial tab for how-to guides.
