Art and more from spring 2008 Humanities 1301 students will be on exhibit from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Friday, May 2, in the Spring Creek Campus atrium. The Collin College Spring Jazz Concert is set for 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 3, at the John Anthony Theatre. Tickets are $5 and free for students with an ID. The concert will feature the Jaztet One, Jazz Combo Too, The PM Combo, the Latin Jazz Ensemble and the Collin Jazz Lab Band. For more information, e-mail Kris Berg at kberg@ccccd.edu.
Scholarship applications for the 2008-09 year are being accepted by the Collin College Foundation through Monday, May 5. Applications are available online by visiting http://foundation.ccccd.org. Students will be notified in June and July if they received a scholarship. The Scholarship Awards Ceremony is set for Tuesday, August 5. For more information, call 972.599.3145.
The Collin Theatre Center concludes their 2007-2008 season with Blithe Spirit, the smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages. The ingenious plot tells how novelist Charles Condomine invites into his placid country home an eccentric, breezy medium in order to learn the language of the occult. Directed by Robin Armstrong. Blithe Spirit will be in the Black Box Theatre at the Spring Creek Campus. Performances are May 1-3 at 8 p.m., with matinees May 3-4 at 2:15 p.m. Tickets are $8 for general admission, $6 for students and senior citizens. The spring Humanities Art Exhibit is scheduled from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Friday, May 2, at the Spring Creek Campus atrium.
The Collin College Chorale will present their spring concert at 8 p.m., Monday, May 5, at the John Anthony Theatre. The event is free.
The priority deadline to apply for Student Leadership Academy is 5 p.m., Friday, May 9. Only 25 students will be accepted into the fall LEAD 1301 course. Students interested in the course must have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and fill out an application packet. The application must be completed in its entirety to be considered for the class. There is no prerequisite for LEAD 1301. LEAD 1301 classes are scheduled every Friday from 8:45 a.m.-noon in the fall semester. Both courses will be at the Preston Ridge Campus. As part of the application packet, students participating in the Student Leadership Academy must submit an academic transcript, two letters of recommendation and an essay. Applications are available at the Center for Scholarly & Civic Engagement in Room F105 at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano or online at www.ccccd.edu/sla. Collin College's Fire Rescue Camp 2008 is set from Monday, June 9-Friday, June 13, at the Central Park Campus in McKinney. The camp is for boys and girls, age 14-18, interested in the activities of fire-rescue personnel. Teenagers will participate in hands-on training exercise learning the skills of professional firefighters. Program concludes with skills demonstration for family and friends. Times are 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and 8:30 a.m.-noon, Friday. Camp participants should bring a sack lunch each day. No one will be allowed to leave the training grounds unless accompanied by a parent. Cost is $150. Call Leslie Thetford or Monica Wright at 972.548.6836 for registration information.
