Priority registration for Student Leadership Academy now open

Students can unlock and refine that inner leader in Student Leadership Academy (SLA).

The priority deadline to apply for Collin College’s fall SLA is 5 p.m., Friday, May 9.

Established in 2002, the Student Leadership Academy is a rigorous semester-long leadership experience unique to Collin College. The course is designed to encourage leadership, integrity, professional development, scholarship and service. The curriculum fosters skills through lecture, guest speakers, student facilitation and team projects. The students earn three credit hours upon completion.

Only 25 students will be accepted into the fall LEAD 1301 course. Students interested in the course must have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and fill out an application packet. The application must be completed in its entirety to be considered for the class. There is no prerequisite for LEAD 1301.

LEAD 1301 classes are scheduled every Friday from 8:45 a.m.-noon in the fall semester. LEAD 2301 classes are offered at the same time during the spring semester. Both courses will be at the Preston Ridge Campus, 9700 Wade Blvd. in Frisco.

As part of the application packet, students participating in the Student Leadership Academy must submit an academic transcript, two letters of recommendation and an essay. Applications are available at the Center for Scholarly & Civic Engagement in Room F105 at the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano or online at www.ccccd.edu/sla.

Students may also contact the center’s director Regina M. Hughes for more information at rhughes@ccccd.edu or call 972.881.5900.
