The state of Texas uses the Texas Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS). That means that similar courses taught at public colleges and universities in Texas during the freshman and sophomore years are identified with common numbers.
The common numbers are not used at every public college or university campus, but most colleges identify the common numbers in their catalogs. See a Collin College academic advisor, who can help you make the correct course selections for core curriculum and/or for your desired program or major.
Course credits transfer in different ways depending on the course. Some courses have a direct equivalent and will transfer as a specific course. For instance, at Collin College, ENGL 1301 transfers to University of North Texas as ENGL 1310.
Courses that do not have an exact equivalent may transfer by title as elective credit, non-advanced (ELNA) or ENBLOC, where the receiving college or university department officials determine how/if the course will fit into your degree plan.
To find course equivalencies for 24 colleges and universities in Texas and Oklahoma, an interactive equivalency database is available online at http://transferu.ccccd.edu/equivalencies.html. The database allows students to view course-by-course listings of how Collin College courses transfer to the various colleges and universities.
