April 29 marks a new milestone as the college portal CougarWeb sets out the welcome mat for employees. Students are next as the next sections rolls out in late May along with new tools for faculty.
CougarWeb is powered by the new Banner administrative software system, which the college began implementing in 2006. As the college completes each phase of Banner, CougarWeb will offer new shortcuts to common information stored in Banner.
What’s a portal? What is CougarWeb?
CougarWeb is a secure webpage that recognizes visitors based on their role as Collin College students, faculty, employees or guests. It delivers personalized content, kind of like My Yahoo! or My MSN. CougarWeb brings many tasks, pieces of information and reports to one place, so you don’t have to remember multiple user names and passwords. After logging in, different tabs and content will be displayed for students, faculty, employees and guests. Each tab contains boxes of content called channels.
What will employees see April 29?
Most employees will see four tabs: Home, My Workplace, Library and Tutorial. (Employees who participated in the pilot phase will also have a Finance tab.)
The My Workplace tab features a number of human resource tools personalized for their profile. Employees will be able to:
Look at pay stubs (beginning with April 30 payroll)
View and file leave requests
Look up available leave and comp time
See links to intranet sites
Access human resources sites
Access their Campus Wide ID numbers (Watch the next Cougar News for tips on locating CWIDs.)
Make shortcuts to any Banner forms used frequently through the “My Banner” channel
This summer, the college will convert timesheet submission and approval to the portal as well through the Time Reporting and Time Approval channels. (Watch e-mail for training dates and details on "web time entry."
