The THE ARTS gallery will host “30 Years!,” a retrospective of the work of professor Lee Akins, who has taught clay for 30 years, the last 20 at the college. The show will run through Saturday, March 8, at THE ARTS gallery, located at the Spring Creek Campus. A reception is set at 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 18, at the gallery. Collin College will host a University Pre-Admission Workshop from 6:30-8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center. A representative from each of Collin College’s partner universities will provide information about their individual partnership opportunities including benefits, the application processes, financial aid and scholarship, and ways to prepare for college. Collin College will host world-renown poet Billy Collins as its Scholar-in-Residence 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Collins is a two-time U.S. Poet Laureate and has published nine collections of his poetry over his career. The event is free and is open to the public. The Collin Theatre Center continues their 2007-2008 season with “Li’l Abner,” a musical cartoon by Gene DePaul and Johnny Mercer with Norman Panama and Melvin Frank based on the comic strip characters created by Al Capp. Directed by Brad Baker and Mark Mullino with choreography by Paula Morelan. “Li’l Abner” will be presented in the John Anthony Theatre. Performances are at 8 p.m., March 1, 5-8, with matinees at 2:15 p.m. March 2, 8-9. Tickets are $15 for general admission, and $10 for students and senior citizens (55+). Group rates are available. The Distinguished Speaker Series continues with Dr. Joan Fujimura, a professor of sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she was founding director of the Robert F. and Jean E. Holtz Center for Science and Technology Studies, at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 4. Dr. Fujimura will present "Epistemology in Action: Knowledge Production in Context."
