Celebrate 30 years of teaching and art with Collin College professor Lee Akins during the upcoming exhibit at THE ARTS gallery. The Collin College gallery will host “30 Years!,” a retrospective of the work of professor Akins, who has taught clay for 30 years, the last 20 at the college. The show will run from Thursday, Feb. 14-Saturday, March 8, at THE ARTS gallery, located at the Spring Creek Campus. A reception is set at 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 18, at the gallery. Collin College will host world-renown poet Billy Collins as its Scholar-in-Residence 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Spring Creek Campus Conference Center, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Collins is a two-time U.S. Poet Laureate and has published nine collections of his poetry over his career. The event is free and is open to the public. Li’l Abner, a musical cartoon by Gene DePaul and Johnny Mercer with Norman Panama and Melvin Frank based on the comic strip characters created by Al Capp, will be performed February 28 - March 9, 2008 at the John Anthony Theatre. The Distinguished Speaker Series continues with Dr. Joan Fujimura, a professor of sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she was founding director of the Robert F. and Jean E. Holtz Center for Science and Technology Studies, at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 4. Dr. Fujimura will present "Epistemology in Action: Knowledge Production in Context." This talk focuses on the practical production of knowledge. The public lecture is set for 7 p.m. and a Conversation with Dr. Joan Fujimura at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 5. Collin College’s Job Fair is set from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesday, March 26 at the Spring Creek Campus Atrium, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. The fair is free and open to the public.
