All Collin nursing students passed the NCLEX-RN exam on the first
attempt, giving Collin College a 100 percent pass rate. The current state
average for associate degree in nursing programs is 81.88 percent and
85.56 percent for all programs.
The Collin College Psi Beta National Honor Society in
Psychology for Community and Junior Colleges was awarded
second place in the Outstanding Chapter category at the 2007
American Psychological Association national convention
in San Francisco.
Collin College’s Alpha Mu Tau Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is now
a “Five-Star Chapter.” The chapter was recognized regionally and nationally
as well as internationally at the organization’s international convention.

Collin College student and Rockwall resident Susan
Blick was chosen as a Leader of Promise by the
international honor society Phi Theta Kappa. Only 30
students in the international organization were selected
for the honor.
Tracy Fanous won the Outstanding Poster award at
the American Chemical Society’s Southwest Regional Conference recently.
Tracy is a member of Collin’s Center for Advanced Studies in Mathematics
and Natural Sciences (CASMNS) program.

Mary Hawkins, the college’s first graduate of the
convergence technology program, was given the Terry
O’Banion Award by Microsoft and the League for
Innovation in the Community College. The award
included a $5,000 prize.
Collin College’s Model United Nations group won four awards at the
American Model United Nations Conference in Chicago. The 16 Collin
students represented two countries, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.
• The Jordan delegation won the outstanding delegation
position paper award.
• The Saudi Arabia delegation won the outstanding delegation
position paper award.
• Andrew Parsell, representing Saudi Arabia, won first place,
in the General Assembly 1st Committee, out of approximately
200 delegates.
• Kay Treacher and Candice Barnard, who worked as a team
and represented Saudi Arabia, won first place in the Economic and
Social Council, out of approximately 75 delegates.
Approximately 140 universities and colleges participated—only
about 10 of which were community colleges. Approximately 1,400
students total attended.
Biology Professor Chris Doumen and CASMNS student Helen
Zhu had their sequence of the red swamp crawfish (procambarus clarkii)
genome officially entered into the national gene bank.
Marcia Wharen, a paralegal student, received a Dallas Area Paralegal
Association (DAPA) Scholarship. Wharen is the second Collin College
paralegal student to win the gift.
