Dr. Cary A. Israel,
president of Collin
College, is the
recipient of the
Chief Executive
Officer (CEO)
Award for the
Western Region
of the Association of Community
College Trustees (ACCT). One of
five regional winners, Dr. Israel
was nominated for the honor
by the Collin College Board of
Trustees who cited his creativity,
vision and planning.
“Dr. Israel is a true asset
to the college because he is an
astute CEO who is passionate
about higher education as well
as the community,” said Dr. J.
Robert Collins, chairman and
founding board member of the
Collin College Board of Trustees.
“Under his leadership, the college
has established award-winning
initiatives as well as unique
programs to serve the changing
student population. We are
thankful for his service and look
forward to continued success
under his leadership.”
Since his tenure began in
1999, Collin College has been
recognized for excellence by
numerous organizations including
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK),
the American Association of
Community Colleges, the Carnegie
Foundation, the National Council
of Instructional Administrators,
and the League for Innovation
in the Community College.
In addition to college awards,
Dr. Israel has garnered numerous
personal awards including ACCT’s
Best CEO in the East award,
the Community Award from
the Plano Community Forum,
21 Leaders of the 21st Century
from Inside Collin County Business,
PTK International Honorary
Member and Shirley B. Gordon
Award of Distinction, the
National Council for Continuing
Education and Training National
Leadership Award and Keeping
America Working Award.
Most recently he received the
Community Service Award from
the Collin County League of
United Latin American Citizens
for inspiring young adults in
the community. Also, he was
recently named to to the national
executive advisory council for
SunGard Higher Education.
