Since 1996, Collin College has conducted periodic surveys to elicit information from adult residents of Collin County about their awareness and approval of the college. The most recent survey was conducted this past summer, and here is an overview of the results.
Awareness: Awareness of Collin College was measured at five levels. Respondents who were completely unaware of Collin College (level 0); those could recognize Collin College upon hearing the college’s name (level 1); residents who could identify Collin College without any prompting (level 2); those familiar with the college and could identify at least one of its campuses (level 3); those who had attended Collin College or had a family member attend (level 4). Based on the survey results,
• About 97 of every 100 adults Collin County residents are aware of Collin College to some degree (level 1 and higher).
• About 85 of every 100 adults Collin County residents are familiar with at least one Collin College campus (levels 3 and 4 combined).
• Nearly four out of 10 adults Collin County residents or a family member have taken classes at Collin College (level 4).
Approval: Attitudes toward Collin College were measured by six items that asked about the degree to which: Collin College meets community needs; provides quality education; makes a valuable contribution to the economic development of Collin County; is a good use of tax dollars; has a positive image in the community; and residents would recommend Collin College to a family member or friend. Approval of Collin College continues to increase among residents of the county.
• Community approval of Collin College increased from 2005 and 2007.
• 81 percent of county residents felt that Collin College offers programs that meet the needs of the community; only 6 percent disagreed.
• 81 percent of county residents felt that Collin College makes a positive contribution to the economic development in the county; only 7 percent disagreed.
• 76 percent of county residents felt that Collin College’s tax dollars are well spent; 7 percent disagreed.
• 82 percent of county residents felt that Collin College provides a high quality education; 6 percent disagreed.
• 82 percent of county residents would recommend Collin College to a friend or family member; 5 percent disagreed.
• 87 percent of county residents feel that Collin College has a positive image in the community; 5 percent disagreed.
