As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, in recognition of Dia de los Muertos students, faculty and staff are encouraged to bring photographs, objects and decorations to put on the altar will be presented Thursday, Nov. 1-Saturday, Nov. 3 in the Spring Creek Campus Atrium. The Distinguished Speaker Series continues with poet and author Dr. Diane Ackerman.  Dr. Ackerman will present "Creative Intelligence or What a Poem Knows.” She will explore the act of artistic creation in general, the psychology of artists, how artists problem-solve to create a work of art and what truths only art can teach us about the world. The public lecture is set for 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6 and a Conversation with Dr. Diane Ackerman at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7. The Collin Dance Ensemble will host its annual Dance Fusion at 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9 and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, at the John Anthony Theatre, located on the Spring Creek Campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano. Performances will include the ensemble, Elledanceworks Dance Company and Muscle Memory Dance Theatre. The show will feature Janice Garrett and Dancers, the renowned San Francisco troupe. Tickets are $8 general admission and $5 students and senior citizens. All tickets will be sold at the door. Collin College's new Health Information Technology Program will present its first information session for students and community members from 6:30-8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Spring Creek Campus, room H224. The session will provide a general overview of the Health Information Technology profession, admission criteria, career options and course sequence.

 

A Carter BloodCare and Rotary Campus Challenge Blood Drive will be Nov. 13-15 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The drive will be located at Central Park Campus cafeteria and at Preston Ridge Campus Shawnee Room of Founders Hall Wednesday, Nov. 14, and at Spring Creek Campus atrium Tuesday-Thursday, Nov. 13-15. The 16th annual Collin College Chili Cook-Off is set from noon-1:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16, at the Central Park Campus in McKinney. Tickets are $4 in advance and $5 at the door. Oral HIV testing takes place at the Spring Creek Campus Tuesday, Nov. 27. There is no charge for the testing. Testing is not automatic. The representative from the Greater Dallas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (GDCADA) will conduct a risk assessment and evaluation prior to testing, as well as offer education about how to avoid risky behaviors. Current and future Collin College students have until Saturday, Dec. 1, to apply for the Southern Methodist University (SMU) pre-admissions program. The program allows students to attend Collin College and earn core credit. All the while, they can work with SMU advisors to ensure a seamless transfer of those credits to the university. Also, students can take advantage of lecture and sporting event tickets, a DART pass, access to SMU’s library and more. Interested students must have a grade point average of at least 2.95 with fewer than 30 transferable hours or a grade point average of 2.70 with more than 30 transferable hours. Students also must complete an application and two essay questions and possibly a recommendation from a faculty member. The Collin Theatre Center will continue their 2007-2008 season with My Three Angels, a comedy classic by Sam and Bella Spewack based on La Cuisine Des Anges by Albert Husson. Directed by Robin Armstrong. My Three Angels will be presented by the Collin Theatre Center in the Black Box Theatre.
